Indhold

The City of Aarhus Aarhus is the second largest city of Denmark, with more than 336,000 inhabitants. It is the center of Greater Aarhus, which has a population of approx. 1.2 million people. The city of Aarhus is one of the biggest employers in the region and has approximately 30,000 employees.

Aarhus is committed to ensuring safety, sustainability and support for good living conditions for each individual citizen, while at the same time focusing on cost effective, innovative and ‘smart’ ways of delivering its services to citizens - e.g. urban development and maintenance.

Furthermore, the city has declared climate neutrality as one of its core priorities, pledging net-zero GHG emissions by 2030.

Aarhus is very active in relation to smart city initiatives and views technologies such as IoT, robotics, AI, lidar, 3D models and digital twins as enablers for creating a good and living city in the future with quality but cost-effective public services.

The city understands digitalization and emerging technologies as a key enabler of its twin transition and continues as a test and demonstration site for new technologies in multiple helix collaborations - e.g., by taking part in Techcircle and Citcom.ai. Specifically, Aarhus sees potential in exploiting experiences and results from the project in relation to creating a more 'smart', digitalized and automatized handling of urban maintenance within the city.

Aarhus has already digitalized a large number of citizen services with over 200 digital citizen services currently in operation. Therefore, Aarhus is already the most 'digital' city in Scandinavia. In recent decades, Aarhus has achieved several milestones as an international knowledge centre: A great number of international businesses have decided to establish themselves or expand their activities in Aarhus; Aarhus University ranks among the top 100 of the world’s 17,000 universities, and more and more international employees, researchers and students are coming to Aarhus.
